This business was started in 1993. I was working as a nanny for a family in Houston and they were expecting twins. I had seen storks in North Carolina and could not find any in Houston to announce the new arrivals. The business was born!
My very first rental was to a neighbor of former President and Mrs. Bush. They were out walking Millie when I picked up the stork and my customer introduced me to them. I thought "If I never rent another sign, it has been worth it!" But, rent more, I did...
The business grew slowly as I continued to work full-time as a nanny and later at a local hospital in my "field." The thought was always in my mind that this would be a great home-based business when I had my own family. That is exactly what happened! I now have 4 small kids and the stork business works beautifully around our lives!
In 1997, I created a web site for the stork business. I figured that when people called and wanted information, I could refer them to the site to see pictures of the signs. However, more often, moms called and emailed asking me how they could start this business themselves and seeking the pattern for my stork. After searching the internet, I found no affordable options and decided to create a "Business Start-up Kit."
The response has been unbelievable!!! In 11 years, our "flock" has grown to over 350 locations coast to coast and we are adding more every week. We have all different types of folks as partners, but the majority are moms who stay home with their kids or are trying to. Our group is a lot of fun, and we are now even planning annual get-togethers to meet and talk "stork talk!"
The business kits have and continue to meet my goal...to help moms and dads spend more time with their kids!
