We’re starting 2015 off with a Stork Stories interview. Today we will feature Heather Emerson, proud owner of The Stork’s Post in Yorktown, VA.  Heather started her stork rental business in September 2013, about 10 days before she  gave birth to her first baby, Levi!  Most people wouldn’t try to take on so much at once, but Heather is obviously a young woman who knows what she wants, and both Levi and The Stork’s Post are growing by leaps and bounds.  She is married to Chase who often helps with getting her orders out the door. And her mother, Carla, and Levi help deliver birth announcement signs to proud new parents in the Hampton Roads area.

Let’s hear from Heather:

Stork Lady (SL):

Why did you decide to start a home based business?

Just a few months before our son was due, I decided that it was very important for me to take on the role as a stay at home mother once Levi arrived. I knew that this business could help me fulfill this dream. I am so glad that I took a leap of faith!

(SL): What made you decide on stork signs as your home business versus other opportunities?

I LOVE BABIES! Babies are such perfect gifts sent from above, and little miracles are so breathtakingly beautiful. I feel so blessed to be able to play a small part in a baby’s homecoming celebration!

(SL): How much time do you spend on your business in a normal week?

I fully believe that with anything in life, “What you put in is what you get out.” I have made it a personal goal to essentially give The Stork’s Post all I’ve got! The amount of time I invest in my business definitely varies from week to week, but I would say that with the time spent on getting orders out the door, delivering, blogging, facebooking, marketing, etc. I probably spend anywhere from 10-30 hours.

(SL): What different kinds of marketing have worked for you?

Blogging has proved to be my number one tool when marketing my business. After every rental, I post a picture of the sign on my business Facebook page and then do a follow up blog. By using certain tag words, along with my pictures, I have been able to boost The Stork’s Post to first return page of Google when a search for stork signs in any town I serve is typed in the search bar. I know that my time spent blogging is not wasted because the majority of my rentals hear about me from “the internet.” In addition, I have had several individuals tell me that they came across my facebook page and fell in love with our signs. Lastly, I feel like word of mouth has been a growing marketing tool for us as well!

(SL): How has being in this business affected your life?

This business has affected my life in all positive ways! I feel as though I have blossomed both in my personal life and professionally, as well. On an individual level, my interactions on a day to day basis have become more enthusiastic and genuine. From a business standpoint, I have become a little more business savvy, and my confidence when speaking with customers, vendors, new parents, etc. has improved significantly.

(SL): What do you like most about being in this business?

It truly warms my heart that The Stork’s Post is able to initiate smiles and lasting memories for families when they see our birth announcement signs upon arrival from the hospital. On September 21, 2013, (four days after our son was born), I was that mommy who got to experience the “Welcome home!” moment when I spotted a six foot tall stork greeting us as we pulled into the driveway with our precious baby on board. It was SO exciting!

(SL): How have you used the income generated in your business?

With babies come dollar signs, and many of them! The extra income The Stork’s Post has generated goes to many of the day to day expenses we have for our son.

(SL): What made you choose Stork Lady over other stork signs that are available?

When I began researching where to purchase stork signs I came across several distributors that just didn’t grab my attention. When I came across The Stork Lady, I was immediately pulled in by her polished, professional, and detailed website. Shortly after sending Beth an inquiry, she responded in great detail and made me feel right at home. Her warm welcome assured me that I would be in good hands!

(SL): What advice do you have for someone just starting out in the stork rental business?

For someone who is just starting out in the stork rental business I would advise they not become  disappointed in the beginning if it takes a little bit of time to get your first rental. I went through a stage where I whined a tiny bit when my phone wasn’t ringing. In the meantime, be sure to market your business like crazy, and I promise your hard work will pay off!

Thanks, Heather!

We have another Stork Stories interview today.  I thought it would be interesting to our new partners to hear from someone who is a relatively new partner and is actively building a busy stork rental business. Alison has been a partner of the Stork Lady for 18 months.  She is the proud owner of Sign Chick in Northwest Houston, TX, including  Katy, Cypress, Tomball, Waller, Hockley, Cy-Fair, Jersey Village and Copperfield

Let’s hear from Alison:

Stork Lady (SL): Tell us a little about yourself and your  family. Does your family help with your business?

Alison:   I’m a wife, mother of two, college professor and “wanna be rock star!”  Sign Chick is truly a family affair;  I make the bundles, my husband Joe does a lot of the delivering, and my two crazy kiddos are always with us approving placement in the yard of each stork.

SL: Where are you located? What areas do you serve?

Alison:  I’m located in Cypress, TX and proudly serve Cypress, Tomball, Houston Heights and NW Houston, Texas.

SL: Why did you decide to start a home based business?

Alison: I wanted to supplement our family income while staying home with our two young kids.  I’m happy to share that stork rentals has brought in extra needed income. I’ve been able to pay some of our bills each month, as well as spend money on extras.  Additionally, it has given my family a new activity to do together.

SL: What made you decide on stork signs as your home business versus other opportunities?

Alison: We received a stork sign in our yard from a group of sweet friends when we brought our daughter, Brooke, home from the hospital. I was THRILLED to see this priceless gift as we rounded the corner and drove into our driveway! The keepsake bundle is still a prized possession, and my daughter loves showing it off to friends and family. The joy a stork brought us, and the limitless possibilities for a stork  business (having babies never goes out of style) convinced me that storks were definitely the best home based business for us.

SL: What advice would you give a new partner who is just starting out with their own stork rental business?

Alison: I would share several things with a new partner.  I’d begin by telling them they need to be patient with the time it takes to build a business. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it does pay off over time. They also need to be disciplined enough to work the business from home, which can sometimes be challenging due to the distractions of family.   However, the great thing about it is you can fit a stork rental business around your family’s schedule.  That’s one of the best things about it. I would also advise a new partner to spend a lot of time and effort on building a great website.  And, lastly, practice and be able to produce good quality bundles, deliver in a timely manner and be prepared and willing to create and deliver storks in a very short period of time. Many orders come the night before a new baby is discharged from the hospital, and new parents love to see that stork in the yard when they arrive home.

SL: Please tell us a little bit about your experience as a Stork Lady partner.

Alison: My experience has been awesome.  Beth has been a supportive & knowledgeable leader, and I’ve also found other Stork Lady partners who are encouraging and willing to share helpful tips and information.

Thanks, Alison!

The Woodlands, TX Stork Rental ~ Conroe, TX ~ Montgomery, TX ~ Magnolia, TX ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements

The Woodlands Stork Sign Rentals

We are sorry to say goodbye to Sarah Jones, but equally happy to say hello to Kelly,  our new partner in The Woodlands, Texas.

Kelly decided to begin a home based business, and specifically a stork sign rental business after she ordered a stork sign for a friend who had a newborn.

Kelly shared she chose stork rentals for a couple of reasons. First, there is no happier time in your life than welcoming a child into the world. She loves having a father call to surprise his wife or a first time grandmother crying while telling me all about the baby.  It feels so special to play a small role in their happiness. She also chose stork rentals because it’s a super flexible business that she can work around her family’s schedule.  It doesn’t get in the way of her family life and it’s just perfect.  Further, Kelly also wanted to earn income she could specifically use to pay for extras for her family.

Kelly also shared she likes the Stork Lady storks best due to the design and quality, and the fact there is a presence nationally due to the other partners nationwide.

The most rewarding thing thus far to Kelly, is knowing her efforts will put a smile on a new mom’s face when the new parents drive up from the hospital with their baby and see a stork sign in the yard.  She takes pleasure in that every single time she delivers stork a sign.

Please visit Kelly’s  page and be sure to “like”it. If you are in need of a stork sign rental in The Woodlands, Conroe, Montgomery, Spring, Tomball, or Magnolia, Texas please call Kelly (832) 663-0447 at The Woodlands Storks & More

Stork Stories with Janice Wilke of Front Yard Friends ~ Chesapeake, Virginia ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements

We’re beginning the New Year with a fun Stork Stories interview.  Janice Wilke is the proud owner of Front Yard Friends in Chesapeake, VA. Janice really knows her stuff and there isn’t anything she hasn’t experienced after 11 years in the lawn greetings business! She and her family have worked very hard to build a busy and successful business. Front Yard Friends serves the greater Tidewater area of Virginia, which includes Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News and Hampton Virginia as well as Moyock, North Carolina.

Let’s hear from Janice:

Stork Lady (SL):  Front Yard Friends has been in operation since 2003 and is truly a family affair. Tell us a little about your family.

Janice: My son & daughter began to work with me in FYF when they were in high school. They’ve since graduated from college and are still active in the business. My son recently married and his wife came on board when they were dating.  My mom also lives with us and has helped in more ways than I can count.

SL: Why did you decide to start a home based business?

Janice: It allowed me the flexibility to be with my children when they needed me, and I truly enjoy working for myself.

SL: What made you decide on stork signs & other lawn greetings as your home business versus other opportunities?

Janice: My husband rented a stork for me when our babies were born. He later surprised me with a lawn greeting for my birthday. I had been on the receiving end of all the fun and wanted to offer it to others to enjoy.

SL: What do you like most about being in this business? What is most rewarding?

Janice: Making people happy by having a small part in a special day or occasion. I especially love to get phone calls from satisfied customers thanking us for making them feel special.

Being successful in my own business is very satisfying. Providing a service that leaves a positive impact on people is its own reward.

SL: What made you choose the Stork Lady opportunity over the other stork signs that are available?

Janice: At first we tried designing our own stork. It worked for a while, but we couldn’t seem to capture the professionalism and polish that Stork Lady brings to our business. Before we became a partner we had been admiring the Stork Lady signs from afar. When we decided to up our game, getting our signs from Stork Lady  was an easy decision to make.

SL: What different kinds of marketing have worked for you?

Janice: Twenty years ago there were newspaper ads and yellow page ads. But after a while we realized our best advertising is our displays because having them seen in yards all over the Tidewater area creates great word of mouth advertising. We no longer pay to advertise. However, having a top-ranked website is key to a successful business in today’s world.

SL: How have you used the income generated in your business?

Janice: It has helped our children’s educations and in general has improved the quality of our lives.  We have been very blessed in this business.

SL: What personal qualities does a person need to be successful in this business?

Janice: A person has to be extremely self-motivated.

SL: What advice would you give someone who is looking for an affordable home business opportunity?

Janice: Do your homework! Any home based business will require time and hard work to become established and successful. And it may sound easier than it will be. Fortunately, in this business there is plenty of help out there from people more than willing to help. That’s not always true in other businesses. Going with the Stork Lady opportunity will help you get started and on the right track.  Front Yard Friends has branched out in many ways in the past 11 years. We provide great deals on Lawn Greeting start up packages to help people trying to break into the business. We offer a lot of variety, as well as many different themes to celebrate all occasions. Please check out our Front Yard Friends website for examples of some of the displays we offer.  However, our website gallery isn’t complete. Be sure to contact us for a complete listing. And be sure to check out the website of our second company,  Sweet-Greetings. The signs we offer through Sweet-Greetings are colorful, fun and popular! Stork Stories with Stork Lady Partners Cindy & Buddy Clarke of Richmond, VA ~ Storks and More, Inc. ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements

Storks and More, Inc.
Stork Sign Rentals
Richmond, VA
804-741-3866

Today we have another chapter in the Stork Stories series in which I interview partners and find out why they chose this home business opportunity and why they enjoy it so much.

Today we’re hearing from Cindy Clarke of Storks and More, Inc. in Richmond, Virgina.   She and her husband, Buddy, have been Stork Lady Partners for eight years and provide stork sign rentals in the greater Richmond, VA area. They also have two additional businesses which were born from their stork rental business, Flamingo Nightmares and Santa’s Secretary.

Stork Lady (SL):  Cindy, tell us a little about you and your family and who works with you in the business.

Cindy:  When our last daughter graduated, we thought we were finished with school supplies and would be empty nesters.  Six years ago we received a surprise blessing. We are parents to a 5-year-old little girl who thinks she is the owner of the business!  She isn’t shy about running up to pregnant ladies to hand them a business card.

SL: Why did you decide to start a home based business?

Cindy: My husband was in a car accident which ended up keeping him from returning to a full time job.  We needed extra money and a flexible way to earn it. My sister originally owned  Storks and More, Inc. but she was working full time and decided to offer the business to us.  We thought the Stork Lady signs were so cute and we knew the business would provide the flexibility we needed to earn extra money. We grabbed it and have not looked back.

SL: How much time do you spend on your business in a normal week?

Cindy: It varies.  Buddy loves to make sure all our signs are in tip top shape, so he is constantly cleaning them.   We try to make good use of our time and combine deliveries and pick ups whenever possible.  It’s probably a good 15-20 hr week.

SL: How has being in this business affected your life?

Cindy: First and foremost, it has allowed my husband to feel like he is contributing to the household.  It’s helped pay for things that we wouldn’t have been able to pay for otherwise.

SL: What do you like most about being in this business?

Cindy: It’s a happy and fun business!

SL: What advice do you have for someone just starting out in the stork rental business?

Cindy: Be willing to put yourself out there to market your business. Always present yourself professionally.  Take pride in your product and be respectful of others.

SL: What personal qualities does a person need to be successful in this business?

Cindy: I think a cheerful attitude and personality helps.  And remember, even if they are wrong, the customer is always right!   Sometimes you’ll be given the wrong birth information. When it happens, just smile, offer to fix it, and move on!

SL: What advice would you give someone starting out as a Stork Lady partner?

Cindy: Forget the stencils and spring for a vinyl cutter. There is no comparison in the difference between a bundle made using a vinyl cutter and a bundle made with stencils and a paint pen. Using a vinyl cutter will greatly elevate the look of your business and help increase rentals.  For most people it’s all about how the stork sign looks in their yard.

SL:  Tell us about your other businesses which have grown from your stork rental business.

Cindy:  We have two additional services born out of our stork rentals.   The first is Flamingo Nightmares . We offer pink flamingo rentals, as well as other signs & critters to celebrate birthdays and all occasions.  Not long after we began to rent stork announcement signs we began to get calls asking if we offered lawn greetings for birthdays and other occasions.   So we began to add different themes and displays to our inventory and Flamingo Nightmares was born.

Santa’s Secretary.com

We also thought it would be fun to offer a service associated with Christmas to the parents and grandparents who rent our storks, as well as to all parents and grandparents across the USA.    Santa’s Secretary sends a letter from Santa to any girl or boy across the USA.  This is not your ordinary “Letter from Santa”.  Santa’s Secretary is much more thorough than those other web sites.  We take the extra time to learn about your child’s interests, and  we customize every letter. This is no cookie-cutter form letter. Each letter is written with your child in mind. Since Santa’s Secretary does not use form letters, we take the extra time to compose a personalized letter. This approach helps in the illusion for your child and makes them truly believe in the magic of Santa and the season. Our letter makes them feel as if Santa really does know them, and has been watching them.  Each letter is hand signed in ink, by Santa, and each envelope has an authentic North Pole postmark. To add to the magic, we offer an authentic “Santa” wax seal on the envelope, and a follow up postcard from Santa during the Summer to remind your child that Santa is still watching.  Receiving a letter from Santa is not only exciting for a child, but also lots of fun for parents and grandparents too.

Thanks, Cindy!

If you are in need of a stork sign rental, a fun birthday sign  or a pink flamingo flocking in Richmond, VA please call Cindy or Buddy at  804-741-3866.  If you’d like to order a customized letter from Santa for a favorite child in your life please visit Santa’s Secretary. As of today, there are only 74 days left to request a custom letter from Santa for delivery this Christmas season.

Stork Stories with Lucy Donnelly of Flamingo-A-Friend & Stork Deliveries ~ Pensacola, Florida ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements

Flamingo-A-Friend Pensacola, FL
Stork Sign Rental Service
830-438-4004

We have another Stork Stories interview today. Lucy Donnelly is the proud owner of Flamingo-A-Friend & Stork Deliveries in Pensacola, Forida.  Lucy is a 19 year veteran of the lawn greetings business and one of its true pioneers. She serves the counties of Escambia and Santa Rosa, also known as the Western Gate to the Sunshine State.  The cities she serves include Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Pace, Warrington and Milton.

Here’s Lucy…..

Stork Lady (SL): Why did you decide to start a home based business?

Lucy:  I started a home based business as additonal income to my job.  It soon became my sole job and source of income. After my husband became disabled and needed my assistance I was glad I had made that choice.  We are not only a stork rental business but we also have over 20 lawn greetings displays to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other occasions.   We began with the general lawn greetings displays and added stork signs to the business because it seemed to be the perfect fit with the rest of our critters.  We are in our 19th year of business in Pensacola, Florida and have enjoyed watching it grow and evolve into the success it is today.

SL: Why did you choose Stork Lady signs over other stork signs that are available?

Lucy: I chose the Stork Lady storks over others because I though they were the cutest storks out there and I still do. It is also a great benefit to be a partner of a company that has become known nationwide.  I not only receive calls for stork rentals from people who are local, but due to the exposure nationwide of the Stork Lady partners  I receive calls from all over the USA from people who want to rent a stork for a relative or friend who lives here.

SL: What is the most rewarding thing about your stork sign rentals?

Lucy: I just love seeing the storks in a yard. You just know how proud the family is to share their news and it gives me a great feeling to be a part of that.  Pensacola is home to the Naval Air Station and we have lots of young military families here. I especially enjoy helping our military families celebrate the births of their children, as well as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other happy occasions.

SL: What different kinds of marketing have worked for you?

Lucy:  I’ve tried almost every form of marketing available from print to radio.  And I’ve found the very best type of advertising is to put out lots of free displays or storks for potential customers to see. It’s great exposure for my business and creates enthusiasm for it.  It is the best way for a customer to understand what service I provide. That is why Facebook  and Twitter have become so important to marketing for businesses.  We can post photos of what we do and potential customers can see them.  All three methods of adversting, free displays in yards all over town, Facebook and Twitter work in tandem for great advertising.

SL: How much time do you spend on your business in a normal week?

Lucy: During the course of a week a lot of my time is devoted to running both lawn greetings and stork rentals. Between answering the phone and taking orders, making signs, delivering and picking up displays on the lawn greetings side and making bundles and delivering and picking up stork rentals it takes quite a bit of time. However, I chose to make this my full time job and since my business is not limited to stork rentals it requires that kind of effort. But that’s the beauty of the Stork Lady opportunity. It can be full or part time and can fit into anyone’s schedule.

SL: What do you like most about your business?

Lucy:  The fact that you are generally dealing with happy people. People who call to order a lawn greeting are excited about doing something special for someone. If you can buy into their excitement it goes a long way. When stork customers call they are always happy.  Who isn’t excited about a newborn baby?  Their excitement and happiness is contagious and one of the very best things about this business. Not everyone can say that about their business or job.

SL: What personal qualities does a person need to be successful in lawn greetings / stork rental business?

Lucy: You need to be flexible, especially with the storks. The statement “we deliver when you do” must be true.  Sometimes people will wait until the last minute to call or they need to delay the scheduled delivery because the baby and mother unexpectedly must stay in the hospital an extra day or two.  You need to expect the unexpected and provide exactly what they need when they need it in order to be successful in the long run. And don’t forget to be thankful and appreciative of their business.

SL: What advice would you give someone who is thinking about becoming a Stork Lady partner?

Lucy:   I would advise them to sit down and figure out what it is you want from your business. Do you just want a hobby?  Do you only desire a part time business? Would you like for it to become a large part of your income?  The answer to these questions will determine the steps you take to grow your business and run it. If you do choose to  have your own stork rental business  you need to go for it! Don’t be shy. Ask for the business. Get your name out there by putting out free storks in yards all over town and  promote, promote, promote!  Another thought I have is learn to run your business so it doesn’t run you. It’s a wonderful experience. Don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the ride.

Thanks Lucy!

Stork Stories with Stork Lady partner John Janicky of Shreveport, LA

The Janicky Family
SB Storks
Stork Rental Business
Shreverport and Bossier, LA

I’m excited to share today’s Stork Stories post because I believe it will be especially interesting & informative for our newest partners. John & Courtney Janicky have  been Stork Lady partners since July 2012.  They are the proud owners of SB Storks and serve Shreveport and Bossier, LA  and the surrounding area.   In 7 months they’ve experienced a lot of success and are well on their way to a busy stork rental business.  They both work full time and have three beautiful children aged 2-7.  John & Courtney always wanted a rewarding profitable business for their family and have found it with the Stork Lady opportunity.   I can attest to the fact that John had a laser-like focus on their business right from the start. He began by writing other partners to introduce himself, ask questions and talk about marketing ideas. Almost immediately John had a website made and two days after it was live they received their first rental for twins!

Let’s hear from John…

Stork Lady (SL):    Why did you decide to start a stork rental business?

John:  Naturally, we wanted to earn some extra money for our growing family.  Our goal was to find a company with a proven track record and a good network of partners.

SL: What made you decide on stork signs as your home business versus other opportunities?

John:  We used a stork service when our middle son was born.  We loved the idea then.  When our third child was born we were unable to find someone locally who provides this service.  So we thought what a great opportunity.

SL: How much time do you spend on your business in a normal week?

John: With a busy work schedule and family life we probably only spend about 5 total hours a week.  We let our website and signs speak for themselves and we have been averaging two signs or more a week.

SL: What advice would you give someone starting out as a Stork Lady partner?

John:  The best advice would be to get a website going.  It gives you credibility with your customers and also allows you to showcase your services.  In addition use social media and local businesses to help develop and grow your business.

SL: Tell us about partnering with some of your local businesses.

John: We’ve done well partnering with other businesses in the community. With three children of our own we have built relationships with many of these businesses over the years. We have placed flyers, business cards and brochures with all of our partners.  Some of the businesses we’ve partnered with are 2 children’s boutiques, an ultrasound company that specializes in 3D & 4D prenatal ultrasounds,  a hospital gift shop and 2 florists. We reciprocate by promoting their businesses on our website and by word-of-mouth.

SL: How has being in this business affected your life thus far?

John:   Our business is so rewarding both financially as well as personally.  Our kids love helping make the bundles and deliver the signs.  We love the family time that we get to spent while bringing such joy and happiness to our customers.

SL: What do you like most about being in this business?

John: The thing that we love the most is the personal relationships that we have built with our customers.

SL: How have you used the income generated in your business?

John: We have used the income for everyday expenses.  We have added money to our savings account and have also started a vacation fund for Disney World.

SL:  What advice would you give someone who is looking for an affordable home business opportunity?

John: The advice we would give would be to find a company and partner that is willing to stand behind their product.  There are so many companies that will sell you something and afterwards you are on your own.

SL: Do you have any other advice for someone just starting out in the stork rental business?

John:   Yes, the best advice we would give is to never give up.  As with anything in life you will only get out of it what you are willing to put in it.  Ensure that you are available for your customers and provide outstanding service.

SL: What is your most memorable Stork experience?

John: The most memorable moment would be the first order we received.  We could not believe how fast we got our first order and that it was for twins.  We will never forget it.  We are still connected with that family and are friends with them on facebook.

SL: Please tell me a bit about your experience as a Stork Lady partner.

John: Our experience as a Stork Lady partner has been great.  The start-up cost was very reasonable, and we have enjoyed sharing ideas with other partners and networking to build our business.

SL: What personal qualities does a person need to be successful in this business?

John: The best qualities to have for this business would be organization, dedication and a positive attitude.

Thanks John & Courtney!

Stork Stories with Stork Lady Partner Teri Crane of Norcross, GA ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements – Atlanta GA area

Teri Crane
Storks By The Yard
Home Based Business

It’s Friday and time for another Stork Stories post.  Our Stork Stories feature is a fun series of interviews with our Partners who share why they’ve chosen this work from home business opportunity, the methods they use for success and how the extra income earned has benefited their life and their family.  I always look so forward to hearing what our partners have to say.  It’s great to be able to learn from each other.

Today we’re hearing from Teri Crane of Storks By The Yard in Norcross, GA.   Teri is a single mom of two children who are 21-years-old and 15-years-old.  She has been a Stork Lady Partner for 13 years and provides stork sign rentals in the Northeast Atlanta area, including Gwinnett County.   Teri aims to please, and is willing to drive as far as 55 miles one way to help her customers celebrate the birth of a baby.  At distances greater than 30 miles a delivery charge is incurred, but she doesn’t want to disappoint anyone who wants rent a stork sign.

Stork Lady (SL):  Teri, why did you decide to start a home based  business?

Teri:  I wanted some extra spending money, and I didn’t want to have to ask my husband for it.

SL: What made you decide on stork signs as your home business?

Teri:   I saw a feature story in our newspaper about a lady on the other side of Atlanta who was renting the Stork Lady signs.  I thought it would be a fun business and contacted her to ask about how she got started.

SL:  What different kinds of marketing have worked for you?

Teri:   My website and the internet are the best marketing tools I have.   Leaving a sign with my company name, phone number and website near each stork I set up in a yard is a close second.

SL:  How has being in this business affected your life?

Teri:  It has had a very positive effect on my life.  It’s such a boost to my self- esteem knowing I can run this business, especially for this long!

SL:  What do you like most about being in this business?

Teri:  It’s fun working with people who are celebrating one of life’s most joyous occasions. My customers are happy 99.99% of the time. You can’t beat that when you are in business!

SL:  What personal qualities does someone need to be successful in this business?

Teri:  I think you should have a happy personality to enjoy this business and do well in it.

SL:  How have you used the extra income earned in your business?

Teri:  I’ve used the income made in this business to cover payments on two cars and for personal spending.

SL:  What advice do you have for someone just starting out?

Teri:  I would advise a new Partner to have a good website and list your service with as many online directories as you can.

SL:  How many hours a week do you put into your business?

Teri:  I spend about 16-20 hours per week. It depends on the number of calls.  One thing I do enjoy about the stork sign business is it’s flexible and I can work it around my life.

SL:  What is your most memorable Stork rental experience?

Teri:  The funniest rentals have been when another stork business is called out to the same house.  It doesn’t happen often, but once I was called out for twins and another company had been called out as well.  The new parents had four storks in their yard!

Thanks Teri!

Stork Stories with Stork Lady Partner Stephanie Diamond of Ellicott City, MD ~ Maryland Stork Lady ~ Stork Yard Sign Birth Announcements

Stephanie Diamond
Maryland Stork Lady
Home Based Business

Today we will continue our Stork Stories feature with an interview of The Maryland Stork Lady, Stephanie Diamond. She is happy to share with us why she chose this fun home business opportunity.

Stephanie has been a Stork Lady Partner for 10 years. She serves the area surrounding Howard County, Maryland, including parts of Baltimore (County & City) and Prince George’s County.  Stephanie has an exubertant passion for her stork sign business and the personality to match!  You can see a glimpse of it in her big beautiful smile! She is the proud mother of a 15-year-old daughter, Bria, and an 11-year-old son, Edward.  Both are active in the business helping to create the bundles and set up the storks.

Stork Lady (SL):  Stephanie, why did you decide to start a home based  business?

Steph:  I started the stork sign business at the recommendation of a friend. I wanted to supplement my income while imparting entrepreneurial skills to my children.  This opportunity allowed me to continue my full-time job while working part time growing my own business.

SL: What made you decide on stork signs as your home business versus other opportunities?

Steph:  I considered other opportunities, but I chose the stork sign business because it offered me the greatest amount of flexibilty to create income without compromising the time I spend with my family.  I chose the Stork Lady signs because I was impressed with the design and  preferred it to all others.  I found the start up costs to be feasible.   I was also impressed with the network of Partners who have contributed to my success. And I felt comfortable with the Stork Lady. I have been blessed to find a business that works for me and my family.

SL: What different kinds of marketing have worked for you?

Steph:  Word of mouth is the best marketing.  I have a lot of repeat customers. My car magnetics have been a great way to get the word out. And I was also featured on our local Fox 45 television station twice.  They included our business in a story about Mother’s Day, and again when twins were born of a rare type of pregnancy. The story made the news and so did my storks. It was a big surprise! The news video can be seen here:  http://www.marylandstorklady.com/in-the-news/.

SL:  How has being in this business affected your life?

Steph:  I’ve been so proud of what I have accomplished with my stork sign business.  It has raised my self confidence and has taught me to reach for the stars. Most importantly, it has allowed me to show my children that you can do anything you set your mind to.

SL:  What do you like most about being in this business?

Steph:   Nothing is more rewarding than making my customers happy and seeing their smiles. I’ve met a lot of wonderful families. It brings me great joy to know that the community entrusts me with such a special task.

SL:  What personal qualities does someone need to be successful in this business?

Steph:  Caring. Customer oriented. Driven. Creative. And organized.

SL:  How have you used the income earned in your business?

Steph:  Education expenses for my children, as well as sports league participation costs.  Both my children have had the opportunity to travel beyond Maryland as a result of income from this business.

Thanks Stephanie!
